Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada announces introduction of "unspecified gender"
To further its commitment towards advancing the Government of Canada’s agenda on diversity and inclusion, on August 31, 2017, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced the introduction of an “unspecified” gender (“X”) throughout its departmental services and policies, for all its official documents.
To date, IRCC is offering interim measures to those requesting an “X” designation in the gender field associated to their citizenship, immigration, or Canadian travel documents.
IRCC also released updated instructions on identity management in regards to Sex designation on IRCC documents and in IRCC systems and Change of sex designation for reasons other than a clerical or administrative error.
