Since July 31, 2018, foreign nationals from countries in Europe, Africa and the Middle East are required to give their biometrics when applying for a Canadian visitor visa, a work or study permit, and permanent residence;
Starting on December 31, 2018, the biometrics screening expended to foreign nationals from countries in Asia, Asia Pacific and the Americas;
In 2019, foreign nationals who are eligible to make an in-Canada application (such as an extension of their visitor status, an application for a work permit or a study permit renewal, an application for temporary resident permit renewal, or an application for permanent resident status), will need to give their biometrics when the Service Canada locations open across Canada. Until then, these applicants continue to be exempt from the biometrics requirement.
