Interim Pathway for Caregivers
Early in 2018, the Canadian Government announced its commitment towards improved permanent residence pathway for caregivers. This commitment has now materialized into a new three month economic pathway for caregivers who came to Canada and who may have expected to qualify for permanent residence, but who, in fact, do not qualify under existing caregiver pathways.
To be eligible under this short term pathway, caregivers have to meet the following conditions, cumulatively:
at the time of application, they are authorized to work in Canada on a work permit other than a Live-in Caregiver program work permit;
they intend to reside in a Canadian province or territory other than Quebec;
since November 30, 2014, they have acquired at least 1 year of full-time Canadian work experience in an eligible caregiver occupation;
they meet the minimum education and language proficiency requirements, and are not otherwise inadmissible.
Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada announces that the Interim Pathway comes into effect on March 4, 2019 and expires on June 4, 2019 and that all applications received during this time period will continue to be processed until finalized.
